my test-day tips
Taking a standardized test soon?
Check out my tips below to be extra prepared for test-day!
Bring an analog watch and set it to noon at the beginning of every section. Not every testing room has a clock, and they often make you take your digital watch off.
Do not blow off a section just because you think you are going for a super-score. This is a bad idea!
Do not send the free score reports - I like my clients to be in charge of what test goes where and when. SKIP THIS even when encouraged by your high school to do it!
Follow all rules set forth by the testing company - like uploading your picture properly!
Make sure you have your accommodations clearly explained and documented. The testing agency will not honor an accommodation just because “you had it last time.
Do a drive-by of the test center or arrive 30 minutes early. Drop-off locations are often poorly marked, and if you are unfamiliar with a testing center, you can get anxious if you arrive and do not know where you are going. This is counterproductive.
Wear comfy clothes, get a good night of sleep, and bring water and snacks.
Relax! Most students take the ACT or SAT several times. If you don’t do your best, you can try again!
